Dr Frauke Fischer is a biologist, biodiversity expert, entrepreneur, author and keynote speaker who advises companies and institutions on integrating biodiversity into strategy and decision‑making. Her work focuses on strengthening the connection between nature conservation and economic practice.
Frauke studied biology in Frankfurt and the United States and earned her PhD from the University of Würzburg in 1989 based on research on overhunting and kob antelopes in Comoé National Park. She later led the park’s research station before returning to Würzburg, where she developed teaching in international nature conservation.
In 2003, Frauke founded auf!, Germany’s first consultancy dedicated to biodiversity‑focused management. In 2015, she launched PERÚ PURO, a social enterprise supporting Peruvian organic cocoa farmers in accessing international markets.
Frauke has published several non‑fiction books, including Was hat die Mücke je für uns getan?, Wal macht Wetter – wie Biodiversität unser Klima rettet, and Kann KI die Natur retten?, which explores the role of artificial intelligence in conservation. She also hosts tierisch!, a weekly science podcast, and since 2025 has written a column for the Frankfurter Rundschau.
Outside her professional work, Frauke is active in international conservation networks and science communication initiatives.
